Populr.me – The Extra Bullet in Your Holster You Didn’t Know You Needed, But You Do
One of the tasks I’ve enjoyed lately helping spread the word about “what” Populr.me can be used for.
What is this thing?
At first, I thought of Populr.me as a design tool – a “page builder”. Then a shift occurred. I realized that by letting Populr.me handle the heavy-lifting, it’s really a communication tool. Think about that – If you have the freedom to type, import images without the need to resize them, easily embed video, share, collaborate, notifications when viewed, etc… “It frees you up to be creative”, said one friend of mine. Yet, at first, I asked myself, “Other than websites and blogs, did I really need another tool for communicating?”
Blogs and Websites – No In Betweens
My blog allows me to type and tell stories. My website allows me to build pages in an environment that’s “pretty enough” to get the job done. And yet, there really is something missing. The in-between an email and a website. Something more private than Facebook, something that allows me and a team of others to create as a collaborative group.
Non-Niche Products – A Pain in the a$@# to Market
Here’s the thing – When marketing a new product that “fills a niche or creates a solution we didn’t know we need” can be tricky. It always begins with having to educate “why” we need it. Typically, this means showing examples. Well, while in the process of building examples to show-off Populr’s capabilities, I keep noticing something I DO need help with that is not new and is not necessarily niche – Products or services that work better than the ones I currently use.
If it Helps Me Do More or Communicate Better, I need It.
I don’t care if it’s a new blender. If it works better than my old blender, saves me time, saves me money, helps me do something better than I can do it now, than show it to me. I’m not sure if I’m slow to learn, or if Populr.me will require everyone to go through a curve in order to “get it”. What I do know is this – Populr is becoming a tool in my arsenal. It’s not perfect for everything I do when communicating, but it’s the BEST solution for MANY of the things I do to communicate. Maybe, that’s the real niche for Populr.me. Maybe, it will become a tool that does something different for each user. It might be the examples or “verticals” that first introduce people to Populr.me. But, I’m starting to have a feeling that everyone indeed needs this tool. Not as their “go to” tool, and not to replace a tool they already have, but perhaps, an extra bullet in their holster.
Have you tried Populr.me? What are your thoughts?
